Master programme Geoinformatics and Surveying
The master programme focuses on research and is directed towards students who already have an academic qualification in this or a similar area (bachelor’s degree or Dipl.-Ing. (FH)). The focus is on increasing existing knowledge. Students have practically unlimited opportunities for further development, since all modules except for one module and the master’s thesis are available as optional subjects.
For example, a course profile with a focus on the field of surveying allows students to increase their knowledge in the areas of engineering geodesy, industrial measurement technology, 3D-photogrammetry and land use planning. A profile for geoinformatics increases skills in the area of digital image analysis, software engineering, shared geoinformation systems etc.
The master programme offers the opportunity of an interdisciplinary orientation of the course profile by the choice of appropriate modules from the humanities such as archaeology and pre-history and early history, an opportunity that is unique in Germany.
The successful completion of the programme leads to the academic degree Master of Science (M.Sc.).
Important Advantages of the Master Programme:
- Increased mobility for students as a result of credit for achievements from other universities with the ECTS-System
- In civil service, classification in higher positions. FH (University of Applied Sciences) degrees are considered equivalent to all other university degrees
- Directly after finishing their studies graduates of the master programme can start their traineeship for higher civil service posts in surveying and cadastre. A further year as an assessor enables them to become a publicly appointed surveyor and become self-employed. They are then entitled to carry out “official” surveying
- The master’s degree entitles a student to go on for a doctorate
