International Civil Engineering (Bachelor, full-time)

Goals

The German construction industry has two points of contact with foreign construction activities. On the one hand, it plans and builds abroad either directly or with subsidiaries or associate companies. On the other hand, foreign companies and builders come to Germany and plan and build or have others do this for them. The demands on civil engineers have therefore changed. Temporary project organisations with international influence, in which civil engineers work together with experts from other countries are becoming more common. The Bachelor in International Civil Engineering takes these changes into account.

Our goal is to provide students with a wide knowledge base and specialisation in areas of construction. They should also become able to use the English language competently both in general and in professional contexts. The bachelor study programme prepares students for employment in engineering and construction companies as well as public and international authorities and organisations.

The study programme normally lasts 7 semesters and is completed with the academic degree „Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.)“ in construction.

Professional Prospects

A wide spectrum of professional opportunities is open to graduates of the bachelor programme International Civil Engineering. The professional expertise in construction and foreign language skills prepare them not only for traditional professional fields in the construction industry, medium-sized construction companies, construction and planning offices and public planning departments. New fields in globally involved companies and organisations are also evolving. Even when economic fluctuations on the employment market are considered, jobs in the construction branch are future-oriented and characterised by a stable market situation.

Consecutive Master programme

Particularly qualified graduates with a bachelor’s degree or diploma (FH) have the opportunity to earn higher qualifications in the accredited consecutive Master of civil engineering programme at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz. The master programme is a continuation of the bachelor programme. It aims to deepen expertise in one of the three areas of focus:

  • Construction Operation
  • Construction Engineering
  • Planning and Environment.

After a normal study time of three semesters , students are granted the academic degree „Master of Engineering (M.Eng.)“.

Women in the engineering profession

The proportion of women among students of civil engineering is rising, and is currently 25%. We would be happy to increase this number
