Facility Management (Bachelor, full-time)

Goals: Facility Management

A fundamental change from new development to systematic conservation has taken place in the construction industry. Building reconstruction and management have grown to a make up a 2/3 of all construction activity. This trend is continuing. Future tasks can no longer be tackled with traditional curricula.

The study programmes in “Facility Management” were developed with the goal of meeting this long-range requirement in the industry. The study programmes provide students with a direct professional qualification in the construction and management of real estate.

  • Tenders (especially for preservation and modernisation)
  • Project management for the execution of construction work
  • Inspection and determination of the remaining life-span
  • Systematic maintenance
  • Evaluation of the basic structure of buildings
  • Preparation for reconstruction and conversion
  • Preparation of property for the next use

The Bachelor in Facility Management grants graduates a first professional qualification and aims to prepare them to take over management tasks within the entire life-span of buildings. The study programme deals with subject matter from the engineering sciences, business administration, law and management and is application-oriented.

Sufficient professional qualification is reached after only 6 semesters. It is then possible to move directly into a professional position or to continue studies in the Master programme.

Why Mainz?

  1. Studying where the jobs are
The "Rhine/Main" region has one of the highest concentrations of the construction industry in Germany. That is why a large number of companies and offices have their headquarters or locations here.
  2. A good city for students to live in
  3. More than 30 000 students live and study in Mainz. The diversity of the study programmes is stimulating. The cost of living for students is lower than in Frankfurt or Wiesbaden.
  4.  Studying in the historic town centre
The building of the University of Applied Sciences may not be particularly beautiful, but its location between the historic town centre (100 metres) and the banks of the Rhine (100 metres) is. It is surrounded by cosy pubs for the evenings or the Rheinterassen for relaxing during a break.
  5. The university with short routes
Even though it is sometimes slightly cramped, the professors, the student administration and the ASTA are all close by. Everything is located in one building and is therefore straightforward.
  6. A university of practical experience
The study programme is consistently geared toward practical demands. This results in much better job possibilities for new graduates. The professors all have years of practical experience.
  7. The people of Mainz love their city
In spite of much damage during the war and not always successful reconstruction, Mainz is a lovable city. Many people initially associate the name Mainz with carnival or the German broadcast station ZDF.

Studying and Family

The University of Applied Sciences Mainz guarantees all students child care for children older than 6 months. Further information about our childminder network is available from the women’s representative of the university or under Studying with children.
