Civil Engineering (Bachelor, full-time)

Goals

You are considering studying civil engineering?

We would like to encourage you and motivate you to do this! You will work in a multi-faceted field and participate in designing our and your living space creatively and responsibly. You will be able to undertake interesting challenges in planning, designing and calculating as well as in the construction of buildings.

Our goal is to provide students with as wide a knowledge base as possible and also to give them access to deepened knowledge in some areas of civil engineering. Students can choose between three areas of focus.

However, the study programme will not only ensure technical and engineering qualifications, but also develop autonomy and creativity as well as consciousness for responsible environmental planning.

Studies are completed in a normal study time of 7 semesters with the academic degree „Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.)“ in civil engineering.

Professional Prospects

When you have successfully completed your studies, a wide range of professional opportunities will be open to you. A large number of interesting, challenging and lucrative post for civil engineers with various specialisations are found in the construction industry and in medium-sized construction companies as well as in engineering offices and public planning departments.

Even when economic fluctuations on the employment market are considered, jobs in the construction branch are future-oriented and characterised by a stable market situation.

Programme description

Consecutive Master programme

Particularly qualified graduates with a bachelor’s degree or diploma (FH) have the opportunity to earn higher qualifications in the accredited consecutive Master of civil engineering programme at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz. The master programme is a continuation of the bachelor programme. It aims to deepen expertise in one of the three areas of focus:

  • Construction Operation
  • Construction Engineering
  • Planning and Environment.

After a normal study time of three semesters , students are granted the academic degree „Master of Engineering (M.Eng.)“.

Women in the engineering profession

The proportion of women among students of civil engineering is rising, and is currently 25%. We would be happy to increase this number

Studying and Family

The University of Applied Sciences Mainz guarantees all students child care for children older than 6 months. Further information about our childminder network is available from the women’s representative of the university or under Studying with children.

Why Mainz?

  1. Studying where the jobs are
The "Rhine/Main" region has one of the highest concentrations of the construction industry in Germany. That is why a large number of companies and offices have their headquarters or locations here.
  2. A good city for students to live in
  3. More than 30 000 students live and study in Mainz. The diversity of the study programmes is stimulating. The cost of living for students is lower than in Frankfurt or Wiesbaden.
  4.  Studying in the historic town centre
The building of the University of Applied Sciences may not be particularly beautiful, but its location between the historic town centre (100 metres) and the banks of the Rhine (100 metres) is. It is surrounded by cosy pubs for the evenings or the Rheinterassen for relaxing during a break.
  5. The university with short routes
Even though it is sometimes slightly cramped, the professors, the student administration and the ASTA are all close by. Everything is located in one building and is therefore straightforward.
  6. A university of practical experience
The study programme is consistently geared toward practical demands. This results in much better job possibilities for new graduates. The professors all have years of practical experience.
  7. The people of Mainz love their city
In spite of much damage during the war and not always successful reconstruction, Mainz is a lovable city. Many people initially associate the name Mainz with carnival or the German broadcast station ZDF.
