In May 2009 the 3rd International Week took place at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz. 45 teachers and members of staff from the International Offices of 29 partner universities in 13 countries came to Mainz.

The aim of the event was for the guests to get to know their colleagues at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz and intensify their cooperation. Who knows, maybe some of the professors in Mainz might like to hold a lecture or two at one of the partner universities or even offer a workshop there. Our students were able to benefit from lectures or workshops given by foreign guest lecturers within their standard programme. Furthermore, the partner universities were introduced and the students could obtain first-hand information for planning their studies abroad.

The faculties and departments at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz were to a large extent able to determine and carry out the lecture and workshop programme themselves. The programme was rounded off by a number of joint cultural-social events combined with various sight-seeing and visiting companies. The final workshop “Building the University of the Future” turned out to be the highlight of the International Week. In multinational, interdisciplinary teams the guests developed their idea of the University of the Future and presented this using hundreds of Lego bricks. A student judging panel evaluated the results and determined the winning team.

A student video team documented the entire course of events of the International Week as part of a semester project of the study programme Media Design. 

The International Week ended with an open day giving the guests the opportunity to gather detailed information about the University of Applied Sciences Mainz. In future the International Week shall take place on a regular basis every two years.
