General information
Each university in Rhineland-Palatinate has a university council. The university council advises and supports the university in all important matters and promotes its profile, performance and competitiveness. It has, in particular, the task of agreeing to changes of the constitution, agreeing to the establishment, amendment and cancellation of scientific facilities of the university as well as the general principles of the senate in respect of funds allocation, advising the university in general affairs, in particular by concepts for further development, making suggestions for study programmes and agreeing to the overall development plan.
The university council is in office for five years. It consists of ten members, five of whom are appointed from the areas business, science and public life as well as five members from the university. The university council elects one presiding member and two members as vice chairpersons and compiles its own rules of procedure. The chairperson and one of the vice chairpersons may not be members from the university.
