Bachelor in Geoinformatics and Surveying – Job description, Goals and Prospects
Essentially, an engineer for geoinformatics and surveying documents and analyses the “what”, “where” and “how” of things on, over and under the earth. This study of geoscientific or general space-related data and facts offers an enormous potential, as more than 80% of all everyday events are related to space and therefore depend on geoinformation. Prominent examples are GPS/Galileo applications as used in vehicle navigation or other matters, when necessary in combination with mobile internet applications (mobile phones, smart phones, PDAs) such as Google Earth or Googlemaps.

This space-orientation can be established with the help of special metrological sensors. For this, the engineer employs many measuring methods such as tachymetry, GPS, photogrammetry and remote sensing and uses processing and analysis methods provided by modern geoinformation systems (GIS).

Engineers for geoinformatics and surveying have command of both the high-precision and reliable measurement of the geometric parameters of buildings and objects and object-oriented programming, the handling of databases and the computer-aided construction of maps and plans as well as the surveying of boundaries for the clarification of property rights.

The successful study programme qualifies students with an interest in mathematics and technology who enjoy working with modern information technology and electronic data processing for the extremely wide professional field of geoinformatics and surveying and makes them recognised experts for space-related information.

The programme leads to a degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.). With this degree, the graduate can work in this profession or continue studies in the master programme Geoinformatics and Surveying.
