The childminder network of the University of Applied Sciences Mainz has stood the test of time.

After completing one year, the university can say that the model project developed with the cooperation of the Family Service Mainz has shown positive results. All of the eight childcare places for children younger than three years of age made available under the project were used by parents studying at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz.

Due to the positive response, the offer will now be expanded: in addition to students, employees of the University of Applied Sciences Mainz may now use the child care service for children from the age of six months. The goal set by the Organising Team of the University of Applied Sciences Mainz is to be a “family friendly place to study and work.”

The University of Applied Sciences Mainz began action before 2002 because approx. 300 students with children were registered and lecture schedules, examinations and library regulations normally still do not take family obligations into consideration. The first Childminder Network in Mainz with pedagogical backing adjusts its offer flexibly to the child care needs of the parents, who may use the child care for up to 20 hours a week. Half of the costs for child care are covered by the university. The Childminder Network ensures parents reliable and flexible child care.

The Sponsor Group of the University of Applied Sciences Mainz donated two wagons which make it easier for the childminders to take care of the children, for instance to go on outings with them.
