Study programme Time-based Media (Master, full-time)
Goal
The Master study programme aims at teaching, researching and realising new concepts and applications for using digital media:
2D and 3D animation, film and television, generative and interactive communication systems.
The students are taught independent, creative and responsible application of artistic and scientific findings and methods as well as proven practical experience as required for working in management positions of creative professions regarding current and future television media. Establishing the scientific background is an integral part of all projects. This requirement is also reflected in the high proportion of theoretical subjects.
The Master study programme aims at the specific professionalization and consolidation of the areas of work as well as the personal development of independent conceptual and artistic work. In individual cases it can also serve as preparation for a further academic qualification in the form of doctoral studies.
In cooperation with local television broadcasting companies, production companies, marketing and web agencies etc. projects are developed and if possible become a pilot project. The Institute for Media Design constitutes an important link between industry and university. Its many years of experience regarding application-oriented work are a guarantee for external partners regarding the success of joint projects.
We hope our students are open-minded team players who are interested in new developments. Our interdisciplinary approach is not only intended for students of our own Bachelor study programme but we also welcome experts from other areas of study wishing to work on new media development concepts.
A Master degree in Time-based Media enables you to design, develop and implement future-oriented projects in the media sector independently, creatively and responsibly.
Professional prospects
The degree “Master of Arts (M.A.)“ enables you to work independently and assume a management function in the already mentioned media areas animation – film/television – interaction.
It is the precondition for higher civil service posts and leads to management positions in the creative industry and economy. The town Mainz located in the centre of the Rhine-Main area with its distinctive advertising industry, numerous television production companies and television broadcasting companies ZDF, SWR and HR offers excellent professional prospects for graduates of this study programme.
