English language prerequisite
For all bachelor students of the Business Faculty
Proof of English language skills must be presented at the end of the first semester of study in all bachelor study programmes.
This proof can take one of the following forms:
- General or restricted college entrance qualification with at least a basic course in English with a grade of at least satisfactory
- Technical college entrance qualification with a grade of at least satisfactory in
- TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - Internet-based) 64 points (as of 2008)
- Other internationally recognized certificates such as Cambridge First Certificate (all "BEC" certificates or B1), TOEIC (at least 540 points), ILTS (at least Level B1, Band 6
- Quick Placement Test with at least Level B1 (60 points – as of 2008)
You can only be admitted to examinations as part of the bachelor examination, which are offered in accordance with the Examination Regulations in the second semester, if this proof is presented. If this evidence is not provided by the end of the second semester, you will be removed from the register of students.
This proof can also be presented before starting your studies.

Quick Placement Test
The level of at least B1 means that you
- can understand the essential meaning of conversations and news reports, when the speaker speaks slowly
- can speak about experiences, describe events and express opinions in simple coherent sentences
- can understand everyday texts and texts from the world of work and can write personal letters
The test takes about 30 minutes. You must show a passport or identity card before taking the test. The fee is 10 €
The Quick Placement Test can be repeated once in the second semester if it has been taken in the first semester. If you take the test before starting your studies and fail, you are allowed two further attempts.
Alternatively, you can take the TOEFL-Test at an independent test centre or at the FH Mainz (fee: approx. $ 150).
